It's a free country

That football player doesn't have to stand for the national anthem.  Freedom of speech and all that. 
   On the other hand, I don't have to like it.  It's disrespect for the flag, and to the Republic for which it stands.  I plan to avoid watching his team play, and I'll call him a scumbag.  My free speech rights.

An interesting dichotomy brought up on another website:

One football player is 'praised' for not standing for the national anthem, but another is condemned for kneeling, bowing his head, and praying on the sideline after a great play.

As Heinlein wrote in his Future History series, these are the "Crazy Years".

Robert A Heinlein, very perceptive writer. He's been dead for many years, but his stuff still reads like it's right up to date.
